Fibula, 2013
Laser-cut aluminum, silicone tubing, stepper motor, motor controller, microcontroller, power supply, bearings. 8ft x 4ft x 4ft
Fibula is a kinetic artwork inspired by the anatomy of bipedal systems of locomotion. It uses a simple modular mechanism based on how ligaments connect to bones to create complex motions with a very simple input motion. The elastic ligament joint is used as a delay mechanism, allowing motions created at one end to cascade through the entire piece.
